Ode To A Fire

What is it about a fire?

We can lose ourselves in the twist of a flame

It is a time for contemplation

The long winter nights are made welcoming and warm by a fire burning in the hearth

and

wherever we are
we are at home there

I remember as a child

staring for hours

lost in time

exploring the infernal depths

of a blazing fire

within it was a landscape

of burning caverns

and cliffs

Plateaus of fire

Upon which I could imagine myself

A flame

wherever the fire is found

it is the center
and the focus of attention

we could measure the world
flame by flame

and

In the glowing core
of those furnaces

we would always
catch a glimpse

of our true selves
